Fabrication of Palatal Template from Diagnostic Model

1.Make impression of edentulous ridge
and prepare diagnostic wax-up.inserter/retriever.
2. Duplicate model and remove lingual cusps to central fossa.
3. Place acrylic onto the lingual aspect of the trimmed model.
4. Prepare vertical groove in center of each tooth position to accommodate 2.0mm pilot drill.
5. Template determines mesio-distal positioning and availability of bone determines final bucco-lingual angulation.
6. Use vacu-press template and actual abutment to confirm restorability of osteotomy site.

Fabrication of Palatal Template from Existing Prosthesis

1. Insert denture into alginate in Lang duplicator.
2. Apply separating medium.
3. Fill other side with alginate.
4. Close and allow alginate to set.
5. Open and remove denture.
6. Fill alginate mold with acrylic.
7. Close and allow acrylic to polymerize.
8. Open and remove duplicated prosthesis.
9. Draw a line in the middle of each tooth and a line representing greatest concavity on the tissue side.
10. Cut a 2.0mm wide groove in center of each tooth joining the lines representing the middle of each tooth and greatest concavity of the tissue side.
11. Remove the buccal acrylic along the slope joining the two lines representing the middle of each tooth and greatest concavity of the tissue side.
12. Trim excess incisal length to prevent interference
with hub of handpiece.
13. Template determines mesio-distal positioning and availability of bone determines final bucco-lingual angulation.
